Nelson Transit carries over 265,000 passengers per year, including services within the City of Nelson and to the North Shore area of the Regional District of Central Kootenay.
Other regional transit serving Nelson--such as trips to and from Castlegar or Slocan Valley destinations-are operated by the Central Kootenay Transit System.
Within the City of Nelson two types of services are offered:
- Conventional local service, which offers scheduled service to bus stops
- handyDART, providing door-to-door service for registered people with a disability.
The City of Nelson operates the conventional service within Nelson while Arrow and Slocan Lakes Community Services operates handyDART and Central Kootenay Transit.
Today in Nelson, about 2% of people travel to their employment using
transit, while 33% walk or bike, 7% carpool and 56% use an automobile.
