Overview

Many of the decisions regarding transit services and funding in the Victoria region are made by the Victoria Regional Transit Commission. The Commission is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council from persons holding elected office, chosen from municipalities specified in the BC Transit Act.

The regional commission in Victoria consists of at least seven members. Two members of the Commission are appointed as directors of BC Transit under the provisions of the BC Transit Act. In the Victoria Regional transit service area, the Commission is responsible for:

• determining route configurations and transit service levels,
• setting fares,
• reviewing and making recommendations for the annual operating budget and capital spending, and
• raising the local share of the annual cost of transit service in the region.

Commission Meetings

The Victoria Regional Transit Commission is set to meet on the second Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m.

The 2008 Commission meeting schedule is as follows:

• Tuesday, 29 January 2008 (Originally scheduled for 15 Jan)
• Tuesday, 26 February 2008 (Originally scheduled for 12 Feb. NOTE: Now starts @ 9:30 AM)
• Tuesday, 11 March 2008
• Tuesday, 6 May 2008 (Originally scheduled for 22 Apr)
• Tuesday, 17 June 2008 (Originally scheduled for 10 Jun)
• Tuesday, 16 September 2008 (Originally scheduled for 9 Sep)
• Saturday, 15 November 2008 (Local government election -- not a meeting)
• Tuesday, 9 December 2008

Meetings are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. No meetings are scheduled for July or August unless required.
